Nobuhito, a young man who loves to take pictures, returns home on his short breaks. There’s nothing much to do in his rustic hometown except taking pictures of his eccentric but humane grandpa, Takuji, or just hanging out with his old friends. One day, a shocking news comes in and it tells that an older brother of Takuji killed himself... The story was mostly based on director’s existed grandfather, Takuji. The director, Shingo Wakagi, was originally known as a professional photographer in Japan and he published an acclaimed photo album, “TAKUJI,” dedicated to his grandfather. The memorable pictures of Takuji in the album had been taken for twenty years before Takuji died by the director and it is enough to encourage him to direct his debut feature film about his grandfather. This unusual personal film, half-and-half mixture of documentary and fiction with taste of OZU’s family drama, successfully leaves a nostalgic impression on the viewers and strangely its impact is more than a documentary and fiction.
